Westchester State Sen. Shelley Mayer is expected to announce this week that she is planning her run, replacing current Attorney General Letitia James, who announced that she is running for governor in 2022.

Mayer has served in the state Senate since 2018, having previously acted as a state Assemblywoman and inside the state Attorney General’s Office for more than a decade.

Other names being floated out there for the Attorney General position include Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Deputy Senate Majority Leader Mike Gianaris, and Former Financial Services Superintendent Maria Vullo.

Mayer's planned announcement could create a game of musical chairs in Westchester politics, according to reports, with some prominent Democrats potentially vying for Mayer’s seat if she were to get the nod for the Attorney General’s office, shuffling some major positions across the Hudson Valley.
